Daniel was my Personal Trainer for about 1 month. At the start of my pre-season we came together and set a few goals. I was seeing Daniel twice a week and he developed a few different programs for my body type that I could do away from my 2 sessions a week to enable me to achieve the goals set. He clearly understood what I wanted to achieve and how we were going to get there. I personally loved the intensity and drive Daniel would bring to the sessions as this made it easier for me to work hard. He had great drills that would sometimes include ball skills and boxing, and it was clear to see that he had experience in working with all ages. Not only did I see him as my trainer but I also saw him as a mate. I achieved exactly what I set out to achieve with Daniel’s help and I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for Daniel. “I made the decision to do something about my health just over a year ago. I felt overweight, lazy, tired, grumpy and thought that this was just normal for a working mum with 3 small children! The decision to do something about it came when I was asked by a colleague how long I had to go before the baby was born (3 years ago!!) and when a sleep study revealed that I had developed sleep apnoea – where being overweight was a major risk factor.
After a long history of trying different diets, I decided that I needed to undertake something that was more long term and focus on health rather than weight loss. I was recommended to Justin as someone who could help me.
At my first meeting with Justin, I told him not to put me on a treadmill, bike, or anything too strenuous and told him not even to attempt to use skinfold callipers on me! Now I am running 10-12 kms and look back a little embarrassed at my attitude!
I began training with Justin and immediately felt better about every aspect of my life. Justin was reassuring, encouraging and set small goals for me to reach, which to my astonishment, I actually did!
The training sessions are challenging, inspiring, often very funny and always make me feel as if I achieved something. Justin created a safe and nurturing environment and was incredibly encouraging. I enjoy going to the smaller style gym, which feels much more personal than some of the big ‘business’ gyms, and I really appreciate the fact that they are prepared to come to my home and set up training sessions there, when it is too hard to make it to the gym.
One of the biggest highlights has been the support he has provided me with my children. They are welcomed with open arms when circumstances force me to bring one or more to the gym with me, and at home sessions, Justin incorporates the kids into my training happily – which has made me see how I can do the same in my own training. He has become a true role model for my children, I sometimes have to sneak out to go to the gym as they always want to come and see Justin!
Justin is a remarkable person, who has helped me rediscover the joy of activity. I feel convinced that he has set me on a path for lifelong healthy habits, influencing not just me, but my family as well. Justin’s ability to motivate with his ‘never say never’ attitude (and bad jokes!) is well appreciated.
I am now 32 kgs lighter, I have a much reduced % body fat and have spent a fortune on new clothes!! I no longer need to use a CPAP machine for my now non-existent sleep apnoea and have reduced my antidepressant medicine to nearly nothing!
