The Just In Time Personal Training 2021 Health and Lifestyle Balance awards!

Was that just 2021 or was it 2020 again? Forgive us all for feeling a bit “blah” when it comes to what day it is or what year it happens to be! Similar to 2020, this year was again dominated or hijacked by Covid. Let’s be honest, it wasn’t much fun. Flowing on from this feeling and sentiment, it is fair to say that this last year has not produced as many great results as previous years. I say that not in any way wanting to discredit the 2021 award winners but more so want to say their results have been all the more remarkable!

You see, the mental and physical toll Covid has taken on so many people extends to our ever-growing client list. It has been tough for so many to stay focussed, disciplined, accountable and to stay positive and optimistic. As a result, for many this year has been about trying to put the best foot forward forward to keep up with either the stresses or the ever-growing workloads that so many are having in these current times. It hasn’t really allowed for a more devout focus on oneself.

That said and under tougher conditions that normal, we haven’t had as many of our clients to choose from when it comes to excellence this past 12 months but the winners as you will read have been amazing! As always, the award winners have a back story and hurdles that they have overcome to get to where they are today. Some of these stories are private and not for sharing here. I am so thrilled with the direction that Just In Time continues to head in and that we reward those that have taken great steps towards a healthier lifestyle balance and ultimately what should be everyone’s major goal in life – happiness. Sure it is nice to look good in a mirror but there is so much more to life!

As many of you would know we are the only Personal Training company in Victoria that exclusively employs University Degree qualified trainers that come to you and what that means to our clients is that they are all individually assessed in relation to where they sit on the behaviour change model (see pic below) and then taken along a journey in a holistic manner to achieve their goals. We focus heavily on our clients completing a lifestyle balance wheel (see pic below) and then taking them through a posture assessment that is accompanied with a why and how to improve it. We then build relationships and with the majority of our clients doing as little as just one session per week, our 4 pillar for success process gets results through empathy, education, support, accountability and all underpinned by sports science (not one crappy burpee performed!).

We are 100% focused on not only helping you attain the results you are after but more importantly we strive to ensure that you take complete ownership of your health, fitness and well-being whilst creating a better lifestyle balance for you to ensure you get the most out of your day, week, year and your life overall. The lifestyle balance wheel  is one such tool we use from day one to set up these outstanding results.

All Just In Time Personal Training clients were eligible over the course of the year and nominated by each of our team of highly credentialed trainers. The winners are hereby listed below!

A special thanks to our award sponsor The Barwon Scoop! Helen Searle manages this amazing Ice-Cream shop in my home town of Barwon Heads and as we are all about balance, ice-cream is a great reward for the hard work put in this year and in moderation sits well with our approach to Personal Training!

Thanks Helen Searle – The Barwon Scoop in Barwon Heads – 10 x $20 vouchers 😉

Our award winners for 2021 are as follows:

The GOLD Just In Timer award this year went to Kath Benson. Kath has been a client of Jake’s now for over 3 years. From day one she has always put in 110% effort into every session, excelling at all things thrown at her. Being a competitive runner, her structure and determination are what keeps her in such great condition for every session. Kath is no doubt such a deserving winner and both Jake and we are proud to help assist with her goals! Kat first started at Just In Time with one of our many referrals from a Physiotherapist and in this case Brendan Duncan from Albert Park Physiotherapy. Kat had a few ongoing injuries that would flare up and Brendan entrusted us in getting her on track. Not only have we managed to keep the injuries to a minimum but she has transformed her health, fitness and lifestyle and is a very worthy winner of our major award! Kath receives a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The Runner Up for the GOLD Just In Timer award went to David Tedhams. It is simply incredible the inner potential that most people have but then there are people like David who are able to set themselves goals and work hard to achieve them.

Alessandro is David’s trainer and here are his thoughts: I remember the first session we had in October 2020 and fast forward to today I can see a totally different person, way more confident in his potential and way stronger and able to perform movements that seemed too hard at that time.

These are some of David improvements:
• Has lost 22kg!
• Decreases his BMI (Body Mass Index) by 6.6!
• Decreased Body Fat by 9%!
• Increased Skeletal Muscle by 4.6%!
• He is 8 years younger in Body Age
• Visceral fat level down from 21 to 14!

If this doesn’t sound like an incredible thing to achieve, I should mention that in March he came to me with the decision to run the Melbourne MARATHON (42.2kms)!
He has been training over the lockdowns, running under the rain or in the cold to follow his program, we kept our sessions online and he finally completed the Nike MelbMara on the 12th of December!
Seriously, what an incredible achievement during such a challenging year and I couldn’t be any more proud of him!

Well done David from all of us and enjoy your $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The Mr Just In Time award went to Adam Woolcock. Adam is trained by Peter who had this to say -Wow, where do I start with Adam. I think Adam has had one of the best years of his life, for personal reasons, but nothing would top watching Melbourne win a premiership haha! His training, work ethic and commitment has been absolutely incredible. For the 2 years that we’ve been training together, we’ve been trying to find the balance between exercise, eating and enjoyment. I can happily say we’ve found it and in doing so, Adam has dropped a whopping 20kg this year while improving his muscle and general fitness. He walks 10,000 steps every single day, eats what’s required, enjoys himself and trains incredibly hard. I couldn’t be more proud of him as a trainer, but ultimately, Adam is where he is because of his attitude and commitment. The aim at the start of the year was to win this award and he’s done it. Well done Adam!! Adam receives a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The Mrs Just In Time award went to Jacqueline Hunt. Now if you have seen or heard this name before, it is because she won the 2020 Gold Just In Timer award and has in 2021 backed up with another amazing year! To read her back story I suggest you click here and read the 2020 awards. So what happened in 2021 to see her name up in lights again? Well you see these awards are designed around seeing a change in one’s life and covering all important elements such as mental health, sleep, relaxation, fitness, health, daily focus on improving one’s overall health and life in general and of course happiness! There are 168 hours in a week and if a client sees us for 1-3 hours a week that means that they effectively see us for less than 1-2% of the week and as such a great Personal Trainer will set you up to ensure you are doing things independently away from us. You see, Jacqueline continued to excel with her fitness, strength, overall health but most importantly she really hit the mark with addressing all things health and fitness away from her 2 sessions a week with us! That is where the results come! Moreover, it was really clear that the Covid situation and being away from friends and family were taking a toll mentally so on Friday October 22, I sat her down and spent the entire hour discussing the need for her to focus on daily mindfulness and the need to keep a gratitude journal of sorts. We also needed to reduce from her 6-7 days a week of exercise to 5 days and really allow her mind and body some release…. What happened next was simply remarkable and from that point on and over the last 8 weeks of the year, Jacqueline managed to lose another 3.3 kgs, and reduced body fat by 2.4% (had lost only 1.5kgs and 0.8% body fat over the rest of the year). In total since first starting with me, Jacqueline has lost 25.5kgs, reduced body fat by 12.9%, increased muscle by 5.3% and dropped her Visceral Fat from an unhealthy 12 done to an 8!

I am truly honoured to be able to be by her side every step of the way as she continues to discover the person she truly is. More importantly though than what was achieved in our sessions and is the goal of all of my team is to see our clients take ownership of the rest of the time away from us during each and every week. You see if you do one Personal Training session a week, that is less than 1% of your week. In Jacqueline’s case of 2 sessions per week, what she did in the other 98% of the week was what ultimately delivered the results. A complete life transformation and absolute ownership of her exercise, nutrition, sleep, attitude and behaviour! Take a bow, Jacqueline – simply an amazing year and a worthy winner of another Just In Time award! Jacqueline receives a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The Mr Just In Time Runner Up and Mrs Just In Time Runner Up was Damjan Vukcevic and Joan Ko whom are incidentally both a married couple trained by Alessandro whom had this to say – Damjan and Joan have been super consistent throughout the year, always planning ahead some time to dedicate to health and wellness.

Even during the lockdowns we have been training on ZOOM and we have learnt together, how to exercise and get results no matter the space and how to manage nutrition stress-free.
Joan hit her lowest bodyweight and the lowest body fat percentage this year and Damjan hit his PB on the Park Run with a 20:45 and now that the race is back on, after the numerous lockdowns, we are looking to improve this further. They involve their kids in sport activities (bouldering, gymnastics, etc..) and they are educating and exposing them to a healthy diet and all I can say is that they are the perfect picture of a very fit family! Damjan and Joan receive a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The Best Body Composition Improvements for Males this year went to Brandan’s client Todd Clarkson. Todd Clarkson started his journey with Just In Time in September after the most recent COVID-19 lockdown. When I first met Todd, he was active and would utilise his home gym, however he just wanted someone to provide him with a bit of extra motivation to help him achieve his goals. Week after week Todd is always pushing himself and he always gives 100% in every session. Between September and December, Todd has lost 7.2kg, decreased his BMI by 2.3, reduced his body fat by 8.2% and increased his skeletal muscle by 4.4%. On top of this, Todd has reduced his visceral fat by 3. In more good news, Todd is now not far off being the lightest he has ever been as an adult! These results have been achieved with consistent training as well as a focus on consuming more fruit and vegetables in his diet. Todd has also had an added focus on hitting his daily protein targets. Well done Todd! Todd receives a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The winner of the Best Body Composition Improvements for Females in 2021 went to Siobhan Bahn. Siobhan is one of many that made the call to start with us when gyms were closed and had the initial mindset that she would have Personal Training until gyms reopened. Gyms have been open for some time now but the results have kept her PT regime! Siobhan has been training with Xavier since late September this year and here are his thoughts – From the very first session I could see she was eager to learn and better herself. She worked hard to improve her diet and puts in a solid session every time I see her. She also takes exercises from our sessions and practices them in her own workouts throughout the rest of the week. Having been so consistent in all of the above has resulted in her losing 9kg, dropping 9% body fat and gaining 5% muscle. I can’t wait to see what the new year holds for her! Siobhan receives a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The Runners Up for both Male and Female Best Body Composition Improvements were Nathan Goonan and Michelle Clarkson respectively. Nathan started his Personal Training sessions in March as one of Callum’s first clients. Here are Callum’s observations – Nathan has made an incredible effort both during his 1-2 sessions a week but also outside of personal training. Initially, there was a steady increase in Nathan’s weight for roughly 2 months where he hit his peak weight and body age. I can still remember how the session went even though it was 6 months ago. I had never had someone work or punch so hard while boxing to the point where I was sore afterwards, until that session with Nathan. Since then Nathan has worked so hard to achieve personal bests week after week and his results are remarkable. From that day he has lost 6.8kg, 3.8% in body fat and gained 2% in muscle. Nathan’s body age has also dropped 8 years! I have really enjoyed working with Nathan, he always pushes himself to his limit and nothing is ever too hard for him. I look forward to seeing what we can achieve next year! Nathan and Michelle each receive a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

Michelle Clarkson started her journey with Just In Time with Todd Clarkson in September after the most recent COVID-19 lockdown. Michelle was already active, however she wanted someone to help her focus on achieving her goals. Michelle continues to go from strength to strength each week. Between September and December Michelle has lost 4.6kg, decreased her BMI by 1.7, reduced her body fat by 5% and increased her muscle by 2.9%. On top of this, she has reduced her visceral fat by 1. Michelle has been focusing on having a piece of fruit or vegetable as a snack during the day and increasing her protein intake to meet her daily protein requirements. With consistent training and a good diet, Michelle continues to achieve excellent results on the OMRON scales each week. Well done Michelle!

The Best Healthy Lifestyle Change award for 2021 was won by Chris Nolan. Alessandro his trainer had this to say – I have been blessed to have the possibility to train Chris this year and over the past 12 months he has lost 6kg with 3% body fat loss and 1.5% muscle increase but the lifestyle change he has had has been truly great coming out of every lockdown!
Chris is very passionate about anatomy/physiology and he has improved his movements, muscle connection and posture as well as his core strength which has significantly improved his singing technique. Yes, Chris is a voice coach and he prepares multiple actors and singers to perform at their best and he totally understands how a healthy lifestyle mixed with a strong body positively affects our ability to perform.
We went through all the nutrition aspects relative to training and he has been applying all of them week by week with positive and sustainable changes. The ability to keep weight off by making the right choices is what makes the results last forever 😉

The Best Healthy Lifestyle Change Runners Up went to a client of mine Marg Wilson. Marg first started with me around mid-year but had severely hampered range of motion in one knee and a lack of confidence in her body. She had lost motivation and needed a bit of a boost and a pick up to get into a regular exercise regime again. Well, that is exactly what happened! Marg had an amazing weekly list of improvements and watching her posture improve and her confidence grow was really rewarding! We worked on her nutrition from the start and that took dramatic steps in improving and the education that went with it. Marg is now super fit, confident and has a definite weekly fitness regime that is added to each and every week that we train! Marg receives a $20 Barwon Scoop voucher!

The Young Achiever Healthy Lifestyle Change award this year again went to Henry Scharer – back-to-back after winning it in 2020! Henry is one of Alessandro’s clients – Henry consolidated his award two years in a row for being incredibly dedicated to making positive changes and learning from a young age how to get results and how to maintain them over time.
Henry’s body has been changing a lot in the last year since he is a teenager but at only 19 years old I’m proud to say that his knowledge about training and nutrition is on a different level.
We have been working on building muscles with tailored progressions and his body has responded extremely well, achieving an enviable physique! His core and overall strength are through the roof and he is now working on advanced exercises. Can’t wait to see what 2022 will bring for him!

The Young Achiever Healthy Lifestyle Change Runner Up award this year went to Matilda Densley whom has been training with Just In Time for just over 3 months now. Her trainer Brandan had this to say – Her progress in that three months has been sensational. When she started training, she had little experience in strength training and wanted to focus on getting fitter and stronger. Matilda started off with one session per week but has since progressed to two sessions a week as she has been enjoying her training so much! I am extremely proud of her efforts every session and her willingness to challenge herself and try new exercises. Well done Matilda!

With a further increase in demand for our Workplace Health programs again this year and the continued growth of Just In Time Workplace Health, the winner of the 2021 Workplace Health and Lifestyle Balance Best Healthy Lifestyle Change award went to Vanessa McPherson from our most successful Workplace Health program EVER at Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses. Jake takes this program for 5 hours each week at the bakery and head office in Keilor Park and had this to say about Vanessa – Vanessa has learnt so many things from our wellness program at Ferguson Plarre. Losing weight and gaining a lot of knowledge about her food intake, which she’s been able to pass down to her kids too! Another exciting year to come in 2022 for Vanessa!

The 2021 Workplace Health and Lifestyle Balance Best Healthy Lifestyle Change Runner Up award went to Dylan Florrimell again from Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses. Dylan has continued to pursue his goals, joining a gym and taking more time and effort to watch his food. The second half of 2021 has seen him really flick the switch and we see a really positive 2022 for him!

All the more impressive for the results achieved by Vanessa and Dylan is that the program involves a 30 minute health and education consultation each week with Jake for it’s employees – no actual exercise – just education, guidance and behaviour change! Well done Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses for the A+ care provided to your employees and well done again to Vanessa and Dylan!
