The Just In Time Personal Training 2023 Health and Lifestyle Balance awards!

Even more than when I wrote this summary 12 months ago, Covid was supposed to have slowed things down and had us all realising that there was more to life than just work and a fast-paced lifestyle. For a couple of years there it was very much looking that way… People selling up and moving to beachside and country towns, working from home and spending more time focussing on our physical and mental health. Sadly 2023 has continued on the back of 2022 with what I would say is a greater disregard for optimal health, fitness and well-being.

You see, we had a couple of years of out-of-control demand for our services as many were either unable to go to the gym or if and when they could, they didn’t feel safe for fear of catching Covid. Whilst demand is still fairly high, the reasons for starting with us have eased in importance for changing one’s life as it was in such dramatic proportions during the height of Covid!

Nevertheless, we have had some fantastic success stories and listed below are the many fiercely contested award winners! They all have a back story and hurdles that they have overcome to get to where they are today. Some of these stories are private and not for sharing here. I am stoked and absolutely thrilled with the direction that Just In Time continues to head in and that we reward those that have taken great steps towards a healthier lifestyle balance and ultimately what should be everyone’s major goal in life – happiness. Sure it is nice to look good in a mirror but there is so much more to life!

As many of you would know we are the only Personal Training company in Victoria that exclusively employs University Degree qualified trainers that come to you and what that means to our clients is that they are all individually assessed in relation to where they sit on the behaviour change model (see pic below) and then taken along a journey in a holistic manner to achieve their goals. We focus heavily on our clients completing a lifestyle balance wheel (see pic below) and then taking them through a posture assessment that is accompanied with a why and how to improve it. We then build relationships and with the majority of our clients doing as little as just one session per week, our 4 pillar for success process gets results through empathy, education, support, accountability and all underpinned by sports science (not one crappy burpee performed!).

We are 100% focused on not only helping you attain the results you are after but more importantly we strive to ensure that you take complete ownership of your health, fitness and well-being whilst creating a better lifestyle balance for you to ensure you get the most out of your day, week, year and your life overall. The lifestyle balance wheel  is one such tool we use from day one to set up these outstanding results.

All Just In Time Personal Training clients were eligible over the course of the year and nominated by each of our team of highly credentialed trainers. The winners are hereby listed below!

Our award winners for 2023 are as follows:

The GOLD Just In Timer award this year went to Stuart Skeggs (pictured to left). Stu has trained with us for just over one year now. He was recommended to Just In Time by a previous GOLD Just In Time award winner in Michael Darby (who continues to excel with his trainer Jake). Stu has completely flipped his lifestyle around, introducing gym work, running for the first time in years, whilst instilling some great habits around his eating without compromising his relationship with food – he still gets to enjoy some sweets!

Stu has been sailing for years and has noticed a drastic change in his fitness and strength while competing and his knees are no longer giving him grief on a daily basis. Stu has dropped an amazing 26.9kg, 10.3% Body fat decrease, 5.2% Muscle increase and he has dropped a staggering 8 levels of visceral fat! We couldn’t be prouder of what Stu has achieved in 2023. We look forward to seeing how far he can take this fitness journey and what challenges and goals are on the horizon! Well done Stu! Special mention to his trainer Jake whom has been instrumental in helping Stu with one Personal Training session per week!

The Runner Up for the GOLD Just In Timer award went to Robert Hanekom. Rob started at Just In Time with Alessandro in January and he is the best example of what can be done in one year with consistency and progression. From the outset, Alessandro and Rob have been working on how to maintain his results for life. He now eats 1000kcal/week more and further improving his body composition by building lean muscle and being way more flexible in his social life!

These are some of Rob’s improvements:
• Has lost 17kg!
• Decreased Body Fat from 31% to 19.9%
• Increased Skeletal Muscle from 31.8% to 37.4%
• He is 19 years younger in Body Age taking it from 60 years of age to 41 years of age!
• Visceral fat level down from 10 to 5!

Well done Rob, what a sensational result and Alessandro is extremely proud of you!

The Mr Just In Time award went to Tom Borcsok (pictured below). Tom is trained by Ben who had this to say – Tom is best summed up as a beast! He literally rocks up to his two sessions per week and gives 100%. He will push to beat PB’s and loves a challenge! His physical appearance has changed dramatically over the past 12 months and accompanying that has been his huge strength development. An absolute pleasure to train and a big motivator to myself to keep pushing myself half as much as Tom!

The Mrs Just In Time award went to Belinda Buhagiar (pictured to the left). Belinda and her partner Prin joined Just In Time in November 2022 looking for a trainer to help them to lose weight and look their best for their wedding in July 2023. Marcus was their trainer from the outset and initially started with 3 personal training sessions a week, as both Belinda and Prin felt they were time poor with a busy work schedule and 3 young kids.

After a slow start, I can proudly say that we only need to train once a week now as Belinda and Prin have developed the skills and knowledge to prioritize their health and training by themselves throughout the rest of the week even with limited time.

While everything was initially focused on the wedding, we have now started looking big picture and are focused on making life long healthy behaviours and habits!
Belinda in particular had an amazing transformation for her wedding in July.

These improvements included:

– Losing 6.4kg (nearly 10% of her overall weight!)
– Dropping from 28.2 to 25.4 on the BMI scale
– Losing 7.3% body fat
– Increasing her muscle mass by 3.8%
– Improving her body age by 6 years

After a successful wedding and a bit of a break, we have returned to training in October and are preparing for a big 2024!

The Mr Just In Time Runner Up went to a client that has been training with Alessandro for quite some time now – Chris Nolan! Alessandro had this to say – This was a challenging year but Chris has been exceptional with his training consistency and structure around it. Managing his PHD, a nagging injury and the planning of his wedding! Yay! 🙂

Chris has been super consistent and accountable with his PT sessions, adapted his nutrition based on his needs, trained consistently at the gym with strength training programs, varying rep ranges and exercises and we kept accountable to our OMRON results, discussing strategies to tackle each week between social events and home meals!

These are the four pillars of Just Time PT to live a healthy life with a scientific based approach and a lot of education to share with our clients.

PS: Chris has enrolled in a Clinical Exercise Physiology Degree! Good luck!

The Mrs Just In Time Runner Up was Julie Fenton. Julie is trained by Mauricio who had this to say – Julie is 54 years of age and in 6 months whilst we only saw a loss of 0.9kg on the scales, more importantly she had a decrease of 3.4% in body fat, a 1.9% increase in muscle mass, knocked off 4 years of body age and reduced her visceral fat level by one. Additionally, she has been super consistent both in attending PT sessions and training outside. She exercises 4-6 times per week (at least 2 gym + 2 runs) and runs 10km races for fun (including the Melbourne marathon 10km which she beat her goal of running under 1hr 10mins (ran it in 1:07:37)!

Julie has a very busy corporate job (accountant) but despite this, she has done a fantastic job this year in staying super consistent!

The Best Body Composition Improvements for Males this year went to our previously mentioned client Robert Hanekom. As mentioned above, Rob’s improvements included a loss of 17kgs, decreased Body Fat by a whopping 11.1% and increased Skeletal Muscle by 5.6%. Awesome effort!

The winner of the Best Body Composition Improvements for Females in 2023 went to another of Alessandro’s clients in Veronica Arca (pictured to the right).

Veronica started toward the middle of the year and achieved the following:

• She lost 8.2kg
• Decreased Body Fat by 5.3%
• Increased Skeletal Muscle by 2.9%
• She is 4 years younger in Body Age
• Visceral fat level down from 10 to 9 and therefore from high to normal.

Well done Veronica!

The Best Body Composition Improvements Runner Up for Males was a guy that has previously won the coveted GOLD Just In Timer award!  Well done to Brad Rowland (pictured below). Marcus as his trainer had these words to share: Brad has had an incredible transformation in the back half of 2023, achieving his lowest weight in the last 5 years! He was extremely dedicated to his exercise and healthy lifestyle to not only improve his physical health, but also his mental health. Brad has been super consistent with his walks everyday with his dog Nala to get his 10,000 steps in, his gym training throughout the week and also his healthy meal preparation and the results show for it.

Since mid-May, Brad has lost 15.6kg, lost 6% body fat, increased his muscle mass by 3.2% and has reduced his visceral fat level by 4.

No doubt we are going to bring these great habits into 2024!

The Best Body Composition Improvements Runner Up for Females was Haley Ballingall. Her trainer Brandan had this to say: Coming off the back of having Covid over the Christmas and New Year break, the focus at the start of 2023 was to slowly build Haley’s strength and fitness back up. Haley has invested more time into preparing healthy, high protein meals to reduce the amount she snacks. We have also been setting weekly goals to encourage more walks in Haley’s spare time. Her personal bests from when we first started include an 8.2kg decrease in body weight, 3.0 decrease in BMI, 6% decrease in body fat and a 3.3% increase in muscle. Awesome work Haley!

The Best Healthy Lifestyle Change award for 2023 was won by another of Brandan’s clients, this time Lisa Barnard. Brandan had this to say – This year has been a big year for Lisa both in her work and in her training. We started the year well but due to the stresses of life, our gym sessions and results started to go backwards. After a long discussion around why we are doing personal training together and resetting some SMART goals, Lisa has taken a big step towards exercising more frequently and making better decisions when eating and drinking.

Lisa has gone from 3x PT sessions a week to now completing 3x PT sessions a week, 2x Pilates sessions a week and 30 minutes of cardio 5x a week. Lisa has also recently substituted alcohol for non-alcoholic alternatives which is a huge lifestyle change. Lisa is taking all the right steps to set herself up for a good start in 2024. Well done Lisa!

The Best Healthy Lifestyle Change Runners Up went to a client of Callum’s in Joy Benstead (pictured below). Callum had this to say regarding Joy: She initially started Personal Training after joining our FREE weekly “More than just a walking group” held every Wednesday in Barwon Heads. Joy enjoyed that experience but wanted some further individual focus. Joy always strives to better herself with every exercise set in her training sessions and programs to do at home and has recently achieved Personal Best’s all across the board and keeps getting better. This year alone, she has lost 6.5kgs (12kgs overall), reduced her BMI by 2.5 (4.9 overall), decreased body fat by 4.4% (8.9% overall), increased skeletal muscle by 2.4% (4.3% overall) and decreased her body age by 12 years from 67 to 55!

Joy also hasn’t failed two of our hard balancing exercises: “hotdogs” and “hamburgers” this year and that was one of her goals. On top of that her bone scan results have shown improvement and her osteoporosis is better than it was when she started!

The Best Core and Overall Strength Development award went to a client of Jakes’s named Tilly Grollo. Tilly has improved year after year, but this year has been a special one. From starting to learn how to deadlift, to now being able to lift 100kg! Her strength levels have skyrocketed, her technique is amazing, her core strength has made some terrific improvements too! Watch out for Tilly in 2024, she has only scratched the surface on how far she can go!

The Young Achiever Healthy Lifestyle Change award this year was split between twins Arya and Sara Patil (pictured below)! They are trained by Jay and he had this to proudly share – Arya and Sara are 11 year old twins who are very interested in improving their Tennis ability. The girls have been training with me since the end of July and in that time they have won the state school championship, won both the singles and doubles (winner + runner up) at the 2023 Optus Traralgon Open and Junior tournament in the 12U section, as well as narrowly missing out on Victorian selection. Both girls consistently show their determination to get better throughout our sessions and are always looking to improve. The girls are also highly competitive, which makes for intense sessions where the girls push each other to get better. Very deserving winners!

With a further increase in demand for our Workplace Health programs again this year and the continued growth of Just In Time Workplace Health, the winner of the 2023 Workplace Health and Lifestyle Balance Best Healthy Lifestyle Change award went to yet again another employee from our most successful Workplace Health program EVER at Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses. Jake takes this program for 5 hours each week at the bakery and head office in Keilor Park and had this to say about our 2023 winner – Joel Cauchi has been involved in our Workplace Health Program at Ferguson Plarre for a few years. In the past he has battled with yo-yo dieting and short bursts of motivation… Now he is consistently showing up to each of his sessions, balancing his food in a much more sustainable way, and the key to success and longevity – enjoying the journey! Joel has lost over 12kg, had a 4.3% Body fat decrease, 2.7% Muscle increase and a decrease of 4 years in his body age! I have no doubt Joel will continue to dominate and I look forward to working with him and helping him to achieve his long-awaited goals! A well deserving Workplace Health winner!

All the more impressive for the results achieved by Joel is that the program involves a 30 minute health and education consultation each week with Jake for it’s employees – no actual exercise – just education, guidance and behaviour change! Well done Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses for the A+ care provided to your employees and well done again to Joel!

The 2023 Workplace Health and Lifestyle Balance Best Healthy Lifestyle Change Runner Up award was tied between two employees from our South Wharf Tower Workplace Health gym that we manage but they have branched out and taken on our “Holistic Health Program”. The winners that were too hard to separate were – Stephanie Lu and Phillip Rees.

Our South Wharf Tower Gym Manager Brandan has been working with both Stephanie and Phillip and had this to say – Steph has done an awesome job since starting with Marcus and I in the Holistic Health Program. Currently working in an office role, she found she wanted to move more and become more active. As a result of training regularly 2x a week she has noticed huge improvements in her physical and mental health. Since beginning in April, she has decreased her weight by 4.9kg, decreased her BMI by 1.7, decreased her body fat by 4.4% and increased her skeletal muscle by 1.9%. Nice work Steph!

Phillip (see picture below) started the year with the goal of becoming active and losing weight. We started training together 1x per week in the Holistic Health Program and now we have progressed to 2x Holistic Health sessions per week and 1x individual strength and cardio session. Phillip has made improvements in both his exercise and diet, which has led to a decrease in weight of 7.1kg. Awesome work Phillip!

So that wraps up our 2023 Health and Lifestyle Balance awards! I encourage all current and new clients in 2024 to set your sights on one of these awards and have a real crack in 2024 and making it the best year for your health, fitness and well-being under the guidance of the Just In Time Personal Training team.
